35ers Update

The first hike went off without a hitch and we had some perfect walking weather, it won't all be like this!

Hopefully you'll all have remembered the advice you were given during the first hike as it's not just a case of forgetting it and starting afresh on the next training hike. You're expected to come back better prepared and ready to build on your knowledge so by the Ten Tors event you are fully prepared.

Therefore, it's important you learn from your mistakes and don't make the same ones on the next hike, we will be actively looking for you to improve and learn. Think about the following:

  • Did you have enough food and water?
  • Where you too hot/cold?
  • Where you told any of your kit was unsuitable?
  • Was your bag packed well? Did you forget anything?
  • Did you get blisters or another injury?

Now do something about it! Resolve the problem, if you're stuck don't be afraid to ask.

On the next hike we'll be already be looking for you to walk a little further, be working better as a team and looking after yourselves (e.g. eating, drinking, keeping warm/cool etc.).

Don't forget we'll be reviewing your progress and performance after each hike based on the matrix you were given.

45ers Update

Overall a good day with excellent spirit and willingness shown by you, we know you found navigation a bit of a struggle yesterday (shown up by the 35ers again!), but as you all know hidden footpaths are not an issue on Dartmoor.

Points to consider:

  • Stamina training try to walk/cycle as much as you can rather than catch a lift, many of you were quite shocked how tired and sore you were at the end of the day.
  • If you are going to make excuses why you missed a checkpoint please try and get the story right before you see us!!

Lost Property

  • White base layer - Hugo Cantrell
  • Single green/grey Coolmax walking sock
  • Blue Camelbak water bottle
  • Plastic water bottle, red lid

If any of this is yours please contact me to arrange collection.
