April 2008 TTN 08
Well that’s it; the training is now over with the event now less than 2 weeks away.
It is now a case of looking back over the last 5 months training, of what you have learnt about yourselves and others.
Do remember that Ten Tors is a team event and that it is all about completing it as a team, and of course finishing before 5pm on the Sunday.
Points to consider
- You are part of a team; you now know the strengths and weaknesses of all your fellow team members. If you are a stronger walker, offer to carry more of the team kit.
- Watch out for one another; always keep a stronger walker as a back marker.
- Navigation - always have at least 2 people doing the navigation, even the best navigators will make silly mistakes.
- Dehydration may well be a problem, make sure you drink plenty of fluid and fill up whenever the opportunity arises (the army will not issue any water on the tors)
THE EVENT
- Sun hat and suntan lotion is compulsory (hard to imagine given this years weather in training)
- A watch - every team should be carrying at least 2 watches (remember mobiles are not allowed)
- Enjoy yourselves; it will be hard for everyone at some stage during the weekend, but try to enjoy the experience. This is what you have trained for over the last 5 months.
Before the event
Take plenty of rest, especially the week before. Do not take any silly risks, the last thing you want is to pick a injury up just before the event, it has happened before!
See you on Monday night for the briefing, aimed at both walkers and parents alike.
Lost property
It's your responsibility to telephone Martin and claim back any lost property we have. The pile continues to grow.
Cheers
Sooty
