Ten Tors News 02 - Dec 2008
I missed the first hike and after turning up at the gasworks at 7.10 on a Sunday it was not my favourite part but it seemed to become a good day even though bitterly cold.
It was good to see so everyone again.
At the start of scrutineering it became apparent that there were a few walkers who either had not turned up or had turned up and not rang. I must emphasise that this process must happen as it allows the team to co-ordinate transport. I must also stress that having the correct kit for scrutineering is very important as you maybe turned away.
The day started off very well with the sun shining albeit cold and icy. As I walked around the ‘middle’ of the route I saw a few teams that had obviously had trouble with navigation. This shows you that even footpaths are hard to walk on or navigate. It is sometimes easier when you are using a compass. Be extra vigilant!!!!
The 45 er’s and 55 er’s all had a good day even though some of their conversations were surprising (credit crunch talk!). Even navigation for the older walkers is difficult on footpaths. Don’t forget Big Brother is watching you!!
Just one note to add, if the route is not obvious choose the best option to get to the known paths or routes which do not cross walls or fences where there is not a style.
It was apparent that one of our adult walkers picked up a ‘tick’ on their leg. There is always a chance of this and you must be aware and be able to remove them as they can make you very ill. See hints and tips page of the website for more info.
A well done to all the walkers and thank you to all the adults and drivers. I hope to see you all next time!!!!
Lost property – If anyone has lost kit please either contact the team via the website or contact Cabot Ten Tors Admin
Rubbish left in the vans - please take your rubbish home with you and not simply drop onto the floor of the vans.
Plastic bag for boots at end of hike - your responsibility to provide - it's on your kit list
Have a good Christmas and see you in January for a crisp New Years training. Don’t forget there is a training day on Jan 11th to include orienteering and Jan 25th for First Aid day for ALL to attend. Keep and eye on the website and emails sent by Ten Tors Admin.
