Ten Tors News 04 - March 2009
All in all it was a pretty good weekend!
We made it down with no problems and although there was a bit of a wait, everyone enjoyed their chips. We even had a fairly peaceful night in the hut with most people going to sleep very quickly.
We had a mixture of weather on Saturday (including a snow shower) but in the main it was a nice day, all the teams did well and had a chance to see many of the tors they'll be walking on during the event. The teams got back to camp in good time and all had eaten and were in bed by 6pm!
Some of you did have problems cooking your dinner, some because they had no gas, others because they had no matches and most because they had no wind-shield or lid. It's a good idea to have all this stuff, it makes it much quicker and easier to get your dinner cooked!
Sunday started with better weather, clear sky in all directions. Everyone got away pretty quickly, many noticing the extra weight from their now soggy tents! In fact, one team decided to leave part of their tent on the moor somewhere (oops!).
Those of you who dropped out during the weekend will have realised it's not much fun stuck in a mini-bus all day! Try to avoid dropping out next time by doing what you can to avoid the problem (i.e. wear ankle support, apply blister pads before you get the blisters, eat something that won't upset your stomach etc.)
We finished Sunday at Okehampton Army Camp, this is where the teams will start and finish on the event so it's a good idea to understand where everything is and where all your anxious parents will be standing!
As most of you know we had a bit of a problem with one of the mini-buses on the return journey which required us sending a rescue party back down the motorway. Fortunately that was that vehicles last journey, we should have some shiny new mini-buses in time for the next hike.
Cheers, Bryan
