Avon Outward Bound

If you are keen on Ten Tors then Outward Bound may be your next outdoors challenge. Courses run throughout the year and are available for all age groups 11 to 24. (If you fancy a family weekend then there are even courses covering the age span of 8 to 80!) There are 3 centres-Aberdovey (Wales), Loch Eil (Scotland) and Ullswater (Lake District) covering a number of different activities e.g. sailing, walking, caving, climbing and general outdoor confidence building all based on teamwork.

Courses last from a long weekend (Friday to Sunday) to three weeks. Prices start at £110 and rise to £1300. However the Avon Outward Bound Trust (the oldest established local support trust) is usually able to offer a subsidy whether for just one or for a group. If you can get 10 of you all interested then some courses are up to half price. (Subsidy offer does not apply to family weekends).

If you are interested then first have a look at the Outward Bound website www.outwardbound.org.uk and then contact the Avon Secretary Mrs Anne Trathan (0117 9624256) for more details. You will find that Anne is very helpful and may be able to offer a range of opportunities which simply cannot be covered in this brief note. Don't forget to mention that you are applying as a Cabot scout who is doing Ten Tors. Please remember, to get any subsidy you must not book direct but go via the local Avon contact.
