What is scruitineering?
Before we leave all kit will be checked in full. This is a useful exercise in preparation for the event itself. Scouts are expected to know (and show) where every item is in the rucksack. Make sure scouts do the packing themselves!
Parents/guardians are asked not to leave District HQ until their son’s/daughter’s kit has been passed as checked -they may need to pop home to pick up some forgotten item!
These will vary according to weather and walking ability but as a guide we aim for a return of day hikes about 16.00; weekend hikes about 17.30. We will text you our expected ETA about 1-2 hours before we will get to Bristol if you’ve signed up for the text alerts.

Keeping the minibuses clean
A strong plastic bag for muddy boots is essential as are trainers to change into for the journey home. Scouts should take their litter home. They will be asked to clean out the vans (however late) if this becomes a problem.
When at home
Parents need to be aware just how tiring the training can be, and in particular care needs to be taken to ensure that your son/daughter does not fall asleep in the bath. An early night prior to the hike and immediately on return should ensure that there is no need to be late for school on the Monday!
